Bartolome Carnes House
Bartolome Carnes House
SINCE 1837 The butcher shop in Plaza Mayor Casa Bartolomé Carnes is located in a privileged setting: on Calle de la Sal, formerly Real de la Sal, whose name derives from the fact that the salt sales warehouse was located there
...It is one of the streets that start from the Plaza Mayor and ends at Postas. It is one of the streets of Galdosian Madrid where the old shops stand out among those selling trinkets for tourists. Opposite the butcher shop is one of the famous facades painted by Antonio Mingote, in which Madrid types peek out from false balconies. The grandfather of the current owners began as an apprentice in the 1920s at the butcher shop, already a hundred years old, and ten years later he took over the business, which, after three generations, continues to contemplate the Plaza Mayor from its door, while selling to people from Madrid and visitors meats such as suckling pig, cold cuts, cheeses and hams.
