SINCE 1890 The Madrid beer par excellence The history of Cervezas Mahou begins in 1890 with the construction of its now legendary factory at number 29 Calle Amaniel, with façades facing Calle del Limón and Calle Montserrat
...The company would be called Hijos de Casimiro Mahou, and the business would be dedicated not only to the production and dispatch of beer, but also to the production of ice. It is not surprising, since Casimiro Mahou, father of the founders of the beer saga, had run an artificial ice steam factory years before. The second and third decades of the last century saw Casimiro Mahou García, son of one of the company's founders, running the factory and expanding the family business. Upon his death, in the 1940s, his son Alfredo Mahou took over the reins of the company: under his direction, Mahou became a public limited company at the end of the 1950s, when production experienced remarkable growth that led to the construction of a new factory on Paseo Imperial, in the Manzanares area, capable of supporting the boom in demand for beer. This factory would soon become the only one in operation in Madrid. The popularity of Mahou beer in Madrid's homes and bars (the ubiquitous caña!) has not stopped growing since then: today becoming the largest Spanish brewing group (Mahou San Miguel), the brand appears inextricably linked with the consumption of this drink in the popular imagination, especially in Madrid.
