...SINCE 1895 The first establishment specialized in beekeeping La Moderna Apicultura opened its doors in 1919 on Doctor Esquerdo street, founded by the businessman and politician Antonio Garay Vitorica in a now historic building, built by the famous architect Secundino de Zuazo, author of the emblematic Palace of the Music of Madrid's Gran Vía. It was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII as the first establishment specialized in the professional manufacture of beehives and tools for beekeeping and the sale of honey, enjoying well-deserved success for decades: press advertising at the time indicated that "remittances" were sent to provinces and abroad. Today, in addition to contemplating the magnificent Maumejean artistic stained glass windows that the store still preserves, its customers can buy any of the more than thirty varieties of national honey that they offer, as well as royal jelly, honey candies and sweets, virgin wax, cosmetics based on honey and teas and chocolates that include honey in their composition.
