Cafes La Mexicana
Cafes La Mexicana
SINCE 1890 “The store that sells the most coffee in the world” At the end of the 19th century, Dolores Levil Biel, a Mexican daughter of Spanish parents, travels to Madrid to discover the land of her parents
...Seduced by the city, she decides to settle down and open a small coffee shop on Calle Preciados, which would end up being known as “La Mexicana”. The coffee was provided by José Rodríguez, grandfather of the current director of La Mexicana, who had started roasting coffee in the patio of his house. Both entrepreneurs collaborated for many years until José took over the business that is now occupied by the third generation of the family. In the 70s, Juan Carlos, José's son, began the expansion of the business. Such was the success that it was common to see long queues of people in front of the aromatic red store in Preciados. In fact, in 1990 it was recognized in the Guinness of Records as "the shop that sells the most coffee in the world".
