Grandfather's house
Grandfather's house
SINCE 1906 Famous for its prawns and sweet wine This tavern, founded in 1906 by Tomás from Toledo, owes its name to the sweet wine it sells, called “el abuelo”, from Alicante. The ration was sold for 1.60 pesetas and the success was such that 350 kg were sold. in one day
...It began under the name of "La Alicantina" and was dedicated above all to the sale of sobrasada and anchovy sandwiches, donuts, wines and liquors. Most of its customers came from the world of bullfighting as it is located in the area for the sale and resale of tickets for the bullfights in the Plaza de las Ventas. At the end of the Civil War, and given the difficulty of finding bread or any other food, Patricio Ruiz bought what was on the market at that time: prawns, a cheap and abundant product at that time. Today the fourth generation continues to sell wine with prawns and garlic prawns, in raincoat or grilled.
