MADRID WELCOMES THE 2025 TORRIJAS ROUTE
2025/03/28
Yesterday, March 27th, at 6:00 PM, the long-awaited 2025 Torrijas Route was inaugurated at an event held at the historic Casa de la Villa. The Mayor of Madrid presided over the ceremony, which marks the beginning of this sweet tradition, which will run until April 20th.
The Association of Artisan Pastry Entrepreneurs of Madrid ( ASEMPAS ) played a prominent role in the inauguration, providing boxes full of torrijas that the mayor gave to various guilds in the city, thus highlighting the collaboration between the pastry sector and Madrid's traditions.
In addition, on April 3, ASEMPAS will organize a special torrija tasting at the Las Ventas Market , offering Madrid residents and visitors the opportunity to savor this emblematic dessert in its many forms.
The Torrijas Route has established itself as a must-see during Madrid's Holy Week, allowing locals and tourists alike to enjoy this delicacy in the city's best bakeries. It is estimated that, during Lent, the nearly 600 artisan bakeries in the Community of Madrid will sell around 7 million torrijas, reflecting the passion and deep roots of this sweet treat in the local culture.
For those interested in exploring the various offerings, ASEMPAS has developed a route that includes participating bakeries, making it easier to locate the best torrijas in Madrid.
This year, the Torrijas Route promises to delight all palates, from lovers of the traditional recipe to those seeking innovative interpretations of this classic Spanish pastry.
