SIGN UP FOR THE "EL DULCE DE HORTALEZA" CONTEST AND MERGE TRADITION AND CREATIVITY

The Municipal District Council of Hortaleza, come together to organize the contest that will give life to "Dulce de Hortaleza", in collaboration with the General Directorate of Commerce, Hospitality and Consumption of the Government Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance of the Madrid City Council, The Association of Artisan Entrepreneurs of the Pastry Sector of Madrid (ASEMPAS), and supported by the Madrid Academy of Gastronomy, promises to promote culinary creativity and strengthen commercial ties within the district.
This contest seeks not only to highlight an exquisite product that represents the district, but also to promote local commercial activity and encourage the promotion of the Municipal District through the creation of an emblematic sweet. A project that fuses gastronomic tradition and innovation, consolidating Hortaleza's distinctive flavor and promoting its uniqueness in the Madrid culinary scene. The call, which will begin on March 22 and will last until 2:00 p.m. on April 19, 2024, invites participants to present their most creative and representative candy. This sweet must be made in individual format and within weights between 100 and 150 grams and must be presented along with the corresponding technical sheet.
With an emphasis on quality and originality, each establishment must create a unique sweet, which will be evaluated by a distinguished jury made up of representatives of the local government, business associations, and experts in gastronomy and baking.
The designated day for the contest is Monday, May 6, where the finalists will have the opportunity to present their creations to the jury in an event full of flavor and emotion. In addition to recognition and prizes, the winning establishment will have the honor of seeing its sweet become an emblem of Hortaleza, promoted and disseminated during the district's festivities.
In order to participate you have to comply with a series of Legal Bases that we will detail below or you can also download them here :
1. The long-awaited "El Dulce de Hortaleza" contest opens its doors exclusively to Pastry and Hospitality establishments located in the Hortaleza District, Madrid, excluding the participation of individuals.
2. With a single category, participants must operate within the Hortaleza District, and registrations can be made until April 26, 2024, via email cultuhortaleza@madrid.es. You can download the bases on the official portals www.todoestaenmadrid.com and www.madrid.es/hortaleza .
3. The registration period, which runs from March 22 until 2:00 p.m. until April 26, 2024.
4. Each participant must present an original and self-made "Sweet", in individual format and weighing between 100 and 150 grams. It is noted that failure to comply with the established weights will result in automatic disqualification from the contest.
5. To formalize participation in the "El Dulce de Hortaleza" Contest, in addition to completing the application/registration provided by the establishment, it is required to attach a "Census Note of the Economic Activities Tax." It is imperative that the establishment is operational and operational within the Hortaleza District.
Additionally, it is necessary to be registered and appear on the official portal www.todoestaenmadrid.com . Each participant must present a detailed technical sheet of the "Dulce" that includes:
- Name of the "Sweet".
- Linking and justification of "Dulce" to the history of the Hortaleza District, with a maximum of 7 lines.
- Ingredients and proportions of the dessert.
- Information on possible allergens.
- Preparation procedure and preparation times.
- A final photograph of the preparation of the "Dulce" (it is recommended to submit several for prior selection).
- The logo will be requested from each participating establishment to use it in communications generated for the dissemination of information and documentation of the contest.
- It is essential to highlight that the winning "Dulce" must be reproducible by neighbors and other businesses in the district, if they consider it so. A set of requirements that not only encourages participation, but also promotes the connection of the "Dulce" with the rich history of the Hortaleza District.
6. Rules for participating
- Each contestant must present 10 individual desserts, of which 7 will be destined for tasting by the jury, 1 will be exhibited and the remaining 2 will serve as a reserve in case of a tie.
- The desserts presented must be served on plates in light colors and with simple decoration, without any type of advertising.
- All participants are required to wear appropriate jackets during the awards ceremony.
7. The competition evaluation panel will be made up of a select composition of experts:
- 1 Representative of the Government Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance of the Madrid City Council, appointed by the head of the same.
- 1 Representative of the Association of Companies in the Pastry Sector in Madrid (ASEMPAS).
- 1 Representative of the Madrid Academy of Gastronomy.
- The new ambassador of Madrid's regional products for the year 2024.
- 1 Representative of a local and gastronomic media outlet in Madrid.
- 1 Pastry or pastry professional with experience in establishments in the sector or in Madrid Cooking and Pastry Schools.
- President of the Federation of Associations of Cooks and Pastry Chefs of Spain, or person to whom he delegates.
This distinguished jury ensures a comprehensive and objective evaluation, bringing a rich diversity of perspectives and knowledge to select the well-deserved "Dulce de Hortaleza Winner."
8. Regarding the evaluation system, the jury will rate the best “Sweet” and choose the winner by evaluating the following sections: Appearance, Texture, Originality and Flavor. Each section will be scored from 1 to 5, with each participant being able to obtain a maximum score of 20 points. The minimum quorum for the validity of the constitution of the jury will be 4 members.
9. Monday, May 6, is established as the official day of the contest. The place and time will be communicated to the contest finalists in advance. That day the finalist will come with the “Sweet” prepared to be tasted by the jury. The number of finalists is limited to a maximum of 16 participants; If there are more registered participants, a prior selection will be made based on the documentation previously presented.
10. Recognition of the talented finalists will be carried out with a commemorative plaque, while the winning establishment will take home an exclusive Trophy as "Winner of the Dulce de Hortaleza". In addition, they will enjoy a prominent dissemination of the recipe and a special presentation of "Dulce" in the official festivities of the Hortaleza District.
As part of the celebration, a promotional video will be created in the victorious establishment, intended for dissemination on social networks, thus consolidating the visibility of the winner.
All participants will have the opportunity to be part of the popular "Dulce de Hortaleza" Route, published on www.todoestaenmadrid.com during the dates after the contest.
11. Regarding intellectual property, it is highlighted that the creation presented will become the property of the Hortaleza District, respecting the authorship of the participants and strengthening the unique identity of "Dulce" in the district.
12. Acceptance of the rules by the contestants implies full adhesion to the decisions of the jury, whose determinations will be final. The Hortaleza District reserves the right to make necessary adjustments to guarantee the optimal development of the contest. A contest that not only rewards local creativity, but also promotes Hortaleza's culinary identity.
