Diversity Foundation and REDI launch the “Our Pride is Diversity” campaign, betting on the inclusion of the LGBTI community throughout the year

With the motto “Our Pride is Diversity”, the Diversity Foundation and REDI are carrying out a campaign throughout the month of June aimed at raising awareness of the diversity management policies that have been implemented in companies throughout throughout the year, especially for the most underrepresented groups, and reflect that this value makes organizations more sustainable, competitive and innovative.

Through a series of creatives to share on corporate social networks, all organizations committed to the LGBTI community of the REDI ecosystem and Fundación Diversidad are invited to personalize these graphic materials with their logo. In addition, LGBTI professionals and allies will be able to download an image to add their photograph as a symbol of this commitment. Finally, to reflect the importance of working and managing non-discrimination policies in work environments throughout the year, companies will be able to share their case studies and diversity programs by filling out a form. Fundación Diversidad and REDI will choose and disseminate the best success stories to inspire other organizations.

According to the study “Innodiversity in the Spanish business fabric 2019-2022 ”, prepared by Fundación Diversidad and Fundación IE, in recent years there has been a boom for equal opportunities and inclusion of LGBTI talent. According to the data from the latest study, sexual diversity is the second demographic diversity that companies pay attention to the most, after gender. If in the latest reports it occupied fourth place, in the last year it rose to second position, with 76% of companies surveyed managing LGBTI talent and 96% of organizations paying special attention to female talent.

According to the study “ Management of LGBT+ diversity in Spain ” (2023), carried out by REDI, in collaboration with BBVA and the UN Global Compact Spain, 93% of companies carry out initiatives around the celebration of LGBTI Pride, But both entities insist on the importance of having zero tolerance policies and mechanisms to exercise it; as well as carry out training and awareness actions and create alliances. Regarding the visibility of LGBTI people in work environments, a strong gap is observed. According to the perception of people responsible for Human Resources in companies, 79% of organizations have visible gay men, while the percentage is lower in the case of lesbian women (65%), bisexual people (35%). and trans and non-binary people (22%), who continue to be underrepresented. An even lower percentage in the case of intersex people (6%), according to the perception of Human Resources.

This analysis coincides with the report “ LGBT Diversity in the work context in Spain ” (2019), by mpatika, which explains that 60% of lesbian women are visible in their personal lives but only 35% do so. is at his workplace (compared to 46% of gay men). From an intersectional perspective, generation Z also draws attention, since, according to the study, young LGBTI talent is more invisible and feels more discriminated against and only 25% make their gender identity or sexual orientation visible at work despite advances at a social level, for fear that it will negatively impact their professional career.

Much of the progress in terms of inclusion is also related to the first strategy for the equality of LGBTI people in the EU, in addition to the particular focus in Spain, where there is a specific framework. Recognizing the need to attract and retain the best talent, more and more companies are taking steps to ensure an inclusive environment. The presentation of the Commission's first strategy for LGBTIQ equality in the EU reflects the urgency of tackling persistent discrimination. This strategy proposes concrete actions until 2025, including legal and financing measures to combat discrimination and guarantee the safety of LGBTI people throughout Europe.
