From May 26 to 31, the San Fernando Market transforms into a Canarian market. Thanks to Desde Canarias, the iconic Lavapiés market will host a full week of activities designed to introduce Madrid residents to the culture, products, and gastronomy of the archipelago, with a program that will grow in intensity each day.
The week kicks off on Tuesday the 26th with a tasting of Canarian wines organized in collaboration with Volcanic Xperience and GMR, featuring sommelier Iván Monreal at the El Perenquén stand, where visitors can discover wines of volcanic origin from the islands. On Wednesday the 27th, it's cheese's turn: a tasting showcasing the wide variety of cheeses from each island in the Canary Islands. On Thursday the 28th, actress Cyntia Centol will liven up the market with a fun quiz of Canarian words and products, testing the archipelago's cultural knowledge among all attendees.
The weekend heats up. On Friday the 29th, the Canarian gastronomic route kicks off, with each market stall offering a reinterpretation of its best recipes using Canarian products. The day concludes with a concert by Keise Lee, who will perform songs by the islands' greatest singer-songwriters, from Pedro Guerra to Rosana. On Saturday the 30th, Canary Islands Day, the gastronomic route continues, and the market transforms into a Canarian plaza with live music and traditional cuisine. Sunday the 31st brings the festivities to a close with a challenge: to create the largest gofio ball in Madrid, allowing all visitors to discover one of the archipelago's most iconic dishes.
