2024/03/14
The art gallery par excellence has temporary exhibitions prepared for all of us throughout this year 2024. All of them have a different character but united in the same objective; the delight of art.
The Prado Museum stands as a bastion of art history. While its iconic masterpieces delight visitors from around the world, the museum is not content with the static solemnity of its permanent collections. In a constant desire to surprise and captivate, the Prado Museum's temporary exhibitions offer an ephemeral window into artistic narratives that defy time and tradition. In this article, we will delve into the fascinating world of temporary exhibitions, exploring how these ephemeral manifestations enrich the cultural experience, adding layers of innovation and contemporaneity to the Prado's already impressive artistic palette.
Here we leave you the next temporary exhibitions within the museum. Which one are you going to?
Right now you can enjoy the temporary exhibition “Another collection: the frames of the Prado Museum” until March 31.
In the venerated rooms of the Prado Museum, where the masterpieces shine, there is an element often overshadowed by the magnificence of the canvases: the frames. These wooden structures, carefully carved and selected with curatorial precision, are silent guardians that frame the essence of each work. On this short tour, we will explore the surprising history and meticulous selection of 30 frames that adorn the Prado Museum's pieces, discovering how these aesthetic boundaries become an integral part of the artistic experience, providing an additional dimension of elegance and authenticity.

Art and social transformations in Spain (1885-1910)
From May 21 to September 22, the Prado Museum offers us this temporary exhibition reflecting the last years of the 19th century. In them, Spain experienced important social and artistic transformations. This period was characterized by the first workers' demands and the loss of the overseas colonies. In the artistic field, painting systematically and objectively reflected everyday aspects, influenced by the rise of the naturalistic style and competition with photography. The Paris Universal Exhibition recognized Spanish artists, such as Luis Jiménez Aranda and Joaquín Sorolla, who addressed social issues. In addition, more expressive expressions emerged led by Darío de Regoyos, Isidro Nonell and Pablo Picasso, connecting with the modern renewal of Paris and other European capitals. This period of change and duality was also reflected in sculpture and graphic work.
The purposes of this exhibition cover the analysis, explanation and dissemination of the significance of the transformations in Spanish art, which are a reflection of the changes in Spanish society during a crucial period in its history.
This exhibition provides the public with the unique opportunity to explore the influence of art on the transformation processes of Spanish society in that specific period. Through the introduction of new themes, art not only interprets the social reality of its time, but also selects and presents significant aspects, many of which had not been addressed until now.

The Prado in feminine. Artistic promoters of the Museum's collections (1602-1700)
From April 20 to September 8 we will be able to enjoy the second edition of El Prado in feminine , taking a step in the chronology and starring prominent women of the House of Austria during the Baroque, focusing on the figures of Queen Isabel de Borbón and Marina de Neoburgo (1602-1700), without forgetting Mariana of Austria and María Luisa de Orleans, among other key women in the European courts.
This exhibition presents the work of these artistic promoters, also highlighting the exceptional figure of Queen Christina of Sweden. To her we owe the most valuable set of classical sculpture in the Prado Museum, as well as fundamental pictorial works, such as Dürer's emblematic panels of Adam and Eve.
This tour will show us the lasting impact of these women in shaping the cultural wealth of the House of Austria during the Baroque.

Rubens' workshop
From October 15 to February 26, 2025 The Rubens workshop brings us closer, as its name suggests, to the way of working of the most successful Flemish painter in Europe during the first half of the 17th century and to the physical place in which he worked, the Antwerp workshop.
The exhibition will feature a representation of Rubens' workshop, which will incorporate easels, canvases, paints, brushes, palettes, tientos and various materials and objects, some from the 17th century period and others recreated in a modern way. In addition, books, antique busts and other items that evoke the collection and interests of the renowned flamenco artist will be on display.
Around this stage, approximately twenty paintings, two drawings and five engravings will be presented, highlighting how these works illustrate the different forms of collaboration between the master and his assistants.
