2024/05/16

Tuesday morning brought with it the well-deserved recognition for two emblematic Madrid pastry shops in the long-awaited contest 'The best rosquillas del Santo de Madrid 2024', held at the former Canódromo Municipal Sports Center. Among an atmosphere of expectation and flavor, Pastelería Cercadillo won the award for the best donuts this year, while La Oriental was distinguished for its excellent gluten-free creations.

The event had the distinguished presence of the councilor of Carabanchel, Carlos Izquierdo Torres, along with other prominent personalities. The prizes were awarded shortly after for each of the competing categories: the silly ones, the clever ones, the French ones, the Santa Clara ones and the Jubilee Year ones.

Cercadillo was crowned the absolute winner, standing out as the bakery with the best traditional donuts in all their varieties. For its part, La Oriental was honored as the best in its specialty, offering a gluten-free alternative of exceptional quality.

Cercadillo: Tradition and Excellence.

Located in the heart of Usera, popularly known as 'Chinatown', the Cercadillo Pastry Shop has been a landmark for 80 years. This family business, dedicated to the manufacture and sale of pastries, has a team of approximately 50 people. Its products hold the Artisan Pastry Seal, awarded by the Community of Madrid and the Association of Artisan Pastry and Bakery Entrepreneurs of the community (ASEMPAS).

For these San Isidro festivities, they have made more than 6 million donuts, demonstrating their commitment to tradition and quality. Its premises are located on Calle de la Cal, numbers 15 and 17.

La Oriental: Innovation and Gluten-Free Flavor

The other winner, La Oriental, has stood out for its excellence in gluten-free products. Founded in 1950 by "Señor Yagüe", this artisanal pastry shop began as a modest establishment in the Plaza del 2 de Mayo, in the bustling neighborhood of Malasaña. Currently, it has a location at Calle de Ferraz, 47, in the Moncloa district.

For more than six years, they have dedicated themselves exclusively to offering gluten-free cakes, carrying out a thorough review of their family recipes to ensure the traditional flavor without neglecting the needs of those who suffer from celiac disease or other intolerances. Their commitment to quality has earned them a prominent place in the Madrid pastry scene.

La Pastelería Cercadillo and La Oriental represent the best of pastry art in Madrid, fusing tradition and modernity to delight all palates, especially during the San Isidro festivities.
