Varade Gloves
Varade Gloves
“The Varadé glove, qualities of durability and elegance” Gante Varadé began its journey in Paris at a time when leather gloves were a symbol of elegance in clothing
...The founder of the business is Santiago Varadé, who in 1902 opened his first glove factory in the heart of Madrid, on Calle Montera. That same year, El Liberal, one of the newspapers of the time, pointed out the "long-lasting and elegant qualities" of the Varadé glove and that its success offered no doubt. And so it was: shortly after, in 1904, the establishment already had a branch in nearby Espoz y Mina, which they would expand with another in Calle de Alcalá a few years later (already in charge of their son Carlos Varadé). In 1910 he founded his glove factory on Calle Carnero, in the El Rastro area, an area, Ribera de Curtidores, where leather craftsmen usually settled. The importance of the establishment continued to grow in such a way that they soon expanded their activity to the provinces, reaching fifteen branches after the Civil War. Today, it is the fourth generation of the Varadé family (the brothers Leonor and Carlos Varadé) that governs the destinies of this hundred-year-old trade. Its activity has extended to the creation and sale of stockings and socks, shawls, scarves, hats and swimwear in summer.
