Coinciding with the celebration of World Consumer Rights Day, the delegate of Economy, Innovation and Finance, Engracia Hidalgo, accompanied by the councilor of the Ciudad Lineal district, Nadia Álvarez, has approached the Sales market to present the "Proudly local" campaign, with which the Madrid city council encourages responsible, informed and critical consumption and promotes local commerce, as well as the informative video on municipal services and resources for training and information on consumer consumption for citizens and businessmen.

Hidalgo has highlighted the importance of this campaign to highlight the differentiated service offered by local businesses through their human and close attention, in addition to raising awareness among citizens about “our role” as agents of change “in our own neighborhood.” ”. “Responsible consumption involves promoting local consumption, supporting the stores, establishments and businesses that make up our neighborhoods, and integrating social, environmental and ethical criteria in decision-making,” he stated.

Collective well-being and a more equitable environment

The 'Proudly Local' campaign will run throughout 2024 in different media. Thus, it will be presented on digital street furniture, social networks and on screens in municipal markets, which will also broadcast, for the first time, informative videos on different aspects related to the defense of the rights of consumers.

Both the informative video and the campaign itself are present today on the municipal website and social networks, as well as on the 140 digital screens of the 23 municipal markets that have the market channel network accessed by more than 385,000 people who visit the market every week. they go to them. From now on, the market channel network joins the consumer information channels, also broadcasting the informative pills, advice and recommendations on consumption that until now have been disseminated on the networks.

Consumer People's Day

Furthermore, to commemorate Consumers' Day, the City Council has installed six information points in different locations throughout the city where advice will be provided on issues related to the rights of consumers.

The locations of these points are Arenal Street, corner of Plaza de Celenque, in the Centro district; Puente de Vallecas municipal market, in the Puente de Vallecas district; Las Ventas Market, in the Ciudad Lineal district; Abtao street at the intersection with Valderribas street, next to the Pacífico Market, in the Retiro district; Narváez street with Felipe II, in the district of Salamanca and the Glorieta de Cuatro Caminos, in the district of Tetuán.

Its opening hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at points located on public roads and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in the markets, coinciding with its business hours.

This is an initiative promoted in collaboration with consumer associations, to which the technicians who attend the six information points belong, where citizens' queries will be answered.

City of Madrid Responsible Consumption Award

On the other hand, Hidalgo has announced the next call for the First City of Madrid Responsible Consumption Award to distinguish those who stand out for their work in favor of responsible consumption and the defense of consumers in the capital.

The contest will have three different categories: on the one hand, the work of entrepreneurs who contribute to the training and protection of consumers in favor of responsible consumption will be recognized; A second category will reward those actions aimed at facilitating the accessibility and inclusion of people with cognitive disabilities. Finally, the third category will be dedicated to the best children's or youth story on consumer education and the rights of consumers.
