The Botijo Stores
The Botijo Stores
SINCE 1754 Probably the third oldest business in Madrid . The establishment's owners are known to have been Nemesio Palencia and his descendants, of whom one, Mercedes, is still in charge. Today it sells drugstore and perfume products
...Mentioned in several of Galdós's Episodios Nacionales, it began as a bazaar selling all kinds of goods: wicker, wicker chairs, walking sticks, cane goods, espadrilles, rope, raffia, bellows, clogs, gunpowder, rockets, toys, paint, pencil cases, and drugstore items sold by five or six employees. Of the old shop, only the red water jug on white marble that gives the establishment its name and entrance remains.
