Las Meninas return to the streets to adorn Madrid with art
2025/10/30
Madrid is once again transformed into an open-air museum with the arrival of the new edition of Meninas Madrid Gallery 2025. More than fifty large-format sculptures, inspired by the iconic work of Diego Velázquez, will occupy squares, avenues, and emblematic corners of the capital from October 26 to November 30.
Art and city in dialogue
Each Menina measures approximately 1.80 meters and has been customized by artists, designers, athletes, and cultural figures. They all contribute their style and vision to this contemporary reinterpretation of the Baroque classic, creating a collective exhibition that unites tradition and innovation. The figures are distributed throughout different areas of Madrid, forming an artistic route that invites visitors to stroll and discover the city from a new perspective.
The project aims to reflect the diversity and vitality of the capital. Through these sculptures, Madrid demonstrates its commitment to creativity, sustainability, and citizen participation. The initiative also highlights the connection between art, fashion, and design—three pillars that define the city's cultural identity.
One route for everyone
Visitors can enjoy the exhibition free of charge and at their own pace. The route invites visitors to wander from the city center to the outer neighborhoods, fostering a curious perspective on urban spaces and their transformation. Each piece, unique and unrepeatable, holds a personal message from the artist and a distinct aesthetic that makes the visit a visual and emotional experience.
The proposal is part of Madrid Capital of Fashion's activities, reinforcing its role as an international art showcase. The fusion of contemporary art and urban environment makes the Meninas ambassadors of Madrid's culture to the world.
A symbol that evolves
Meninas Madrid Gallery was founded to pay homage to Velázquez and, over the years, has become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the autumn. Its ethos combines respect for historical legacy with a firm commitment to innovation. This year, the sculptures feature sustainable materials and designs that invite reflection on current issues such as equality, diversity, and accessible art.
Madrid, a gallery without walls
The streets are filled with color, creativity, and surprise. Every corner becomes a meeting point between art and the public. This exhibition, which unites the classic with the contemporary, reaffirms Madrid's role as an open, vibrant, and constantly evolving city.
Because each Menina tells a story, because every stroll becomes a discovery. Madrid, once again, adorns its streets with art.
