SINCE 1834 Pardoned by the flames of 1790 The building located on Calle Imperial is one of the oldest in the Plaza Mayor and its surroundings, as it was one of the few that survived the fire in the Madrid square in 1790
...There, in 1834 , a goods store was set up, that is, it sold not only fabrics for clothing, but also ready-made clothes, which was known as Tienda de la Cruz, probably due to its proximity to the Plaza de la Santa Cruz. Years later, at the end of the 19th century, a businessman from Catalonia would settle there, Salvador Muntán, who would continue with the fabric business, and whose son, Francisco Muntán Colomer, would inherit at the beginning of the 20th century. Ramón Bober Torres, nephew of the former, would take over the company in 1919. His four children, María, Ramón, José and Antonio, who would continue the business after his death. The current owners of the store descend from two of those brothers, Ramón and José. Inside Bober Tejidos, today dedicated to the wholesale and retail sale of fabrics, they still keep a large number of samples from the past: from the red wood and glass doorway to the exposed wooden interior beams, through a wide counter, already worn by use, and the usual back room. Customer service is also the same as always: close and cordial, as befits an establishment that has been in business for more than one hundred and eighty years.
