Antón Martín Municipal Market
Antón Martín Municipal Market
Mercado Antón Martín , one of the fashionable Municipal markets, today is one of the best gastronomic spaces , where you can shop, have tapas and eat in the center of Madrid.
If there is something that represents gastronomy, it is the municipal markets and the Mercado Antón Martín is proof of it.
...It is located between Santa Isabel and Atocha streets , in the historic center of the city of Madrid, very close to Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Plaza de Atocha. Located in the same square that gives it its name, it supplies neighborhoods such as Las Letras, Lavapiés, Justicia, known for their touristic, bohemian, artistic and multicultural atmosphere. It is very well connected by public transport: there is a metro stop one block away and different bus lines stop at its doors. It consists of three floors and street shops: on the ground floor, main floor, and street, it houses 65 food stalls, including traditional ( fish, meat, fruit and vegetable stalls, bakeries, food, organic product stalls, clinic veterinary medicine, cutlery, footwear, etc) and gastronomy (tasting bars, cafeterias, small restaurants, vermouth bars, which occupy one hundred percent of the commercial space. On the first floor , since 2002, is the prestigious dance school “ Amor de Dios Flamenco Art and Spanish Dance Center” .
This municipal food market has been a market place since 1776. In 1933, the Madrid City Council commissioned the architect Gonzalo Domínguez Espúñez to design what would be the Mercado Antón Martín . The project was not executed until after the civil war and it was inaugurated in 1941.
We want the Market to be the place for neighborhood socialization and the consolidation of the symbolic identity of the area and today it is next to customers, to facilitate their purchases in its different modalities: face-to-face, for those who want to take their products personally ; or remotely , through home service, telephone order , through email or online platforms, which allows either the collection of the products, or the delivery at home.
