...The definition of the establishment that appears in its opening license is that of a china shop, a type of neighborhood store very typical of that time in which a little of everything was sold, from crockery to cleaning supplies, strings and espadrilles. And as such it existed until the post-war period, in which the china shop became a business specializing in footwear. Later, around the seventies of the last century, it was a pioneer in introducing dress espadrilles into society, in a wide range of colors and models, even for weddings. But of course, based on the name of the establishment, it is logical to deduce that the highlight of this business is its wide assortment of slippers, or slippers that are used only for walking around the house. And that's how it is: open or closed, made in all kinds of materials (suede, nappa leather, velvet, etc.) and manufactured by the best footwear craftsmen in Menorca. Chinela has always been a family business that, today and with the great-granddaughter of the initiator of the saga, has already reached its fourth generation. After staying in the same location on Jorge Juan street for more than a century, as of 2015 they can only be found on Núñez de Balboa street.
