SINCE 1913
The love for detail and things well done.
Everyone knows him as Pontejos and to say that he has been dedicated from his origins only to the sale of haberdashery products is not doing him justice; Entering it is like opening a door to another universe, one that mixes flavors from the past with the most rabid today: velcro, lace trimmings, braid, tassels, bobbins, crystals, wool and buttons. Who is not mesmerized when contemplating the famous wooden wheels of Pontejos, which show the almost infinite variety of these objects ordered by materials, colors and sizes? The Almacén de Pontejos was founded in 1913 by Antonio Ubillos, the great-grandfather of the current managers, who arrived in Madrid from Guipúzcoa at the end of the 19th century and began working as an apprentice in the establishment of his uncle Ángel Caso. Since he likes work, he saves until he buys a place just opposite his uncle's, in the same Plaza de Pontejos (a square that Benito Pérez Galdós mentions in Fortunata and Jacinta and famous for bringing together businesses specialized in the haberdashery industry), and he began to develop his own business, which was advertised as Novelty, Embroidery and Lace. Ubillos leaves his son-in-law, Máximo Rueda, as successor, who renews the business and makes it what it is today, and to whom it is named, Sucesores de Antonio Ubillos.
From then until today, four generations of the Rueda Ubillos family have taken care to keep the founder's legacy alive with an ever-present maxim: love for detail and things well done.
