SINCE 1914 The "guild" of the orchard It was established in 1914 as the Guild of Fruits and Vegetables, one of the most traditional professional associations in all of Spain. At the end of the Civil War, the Society would become a Union Guild
...In later years they would also be known as La Huerta Society; In the press of the thirties of the last century, there were advertisements with that denomination advising its associates of the obligation to close their establishments on Sundays (the Sunday rest was implemented in 1932) and, curiously, advising the public to buy fruit and vegetables with advance. Although they had been using them interchangeably, at the beginning of the 1970s they would combine both names, being able to find them as the Grupo Sindical de Detallistas de Frutas y Verduras de Madrid "La Huerta". As an anecdote, comment that in those same years they established their administrative office on the ground floor of a building on Calle de la Palma that had been a fruit and vegetable store at the beginning of the century, in 1907. With the advent of democracy in 1977, it would be configured , with the name it maintains today, as an employers' association (the only one in its sector) and, as always, with its social objective of defending the interests of fruit and vegetable retailers in Madrid and its Community. ADEFRUTAS currently brings together more than six hundred greengrocers.
