BELGIAN SAWMILL CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH GERMAN HANDICRAFT WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN
2024/12/19

This Christmas, the Serrería Belga Cultural Space is hosting a series of workshops on creating decorative elements based on German Christmas crafts as part of its 'Madrid, Navidad de Encuentro' programme.

In these activities, the little ones will use natural and recycled materials, such as wood, wool, rope and other elements from nature. All workshops will be aimed at girls and boys between 6 and 12 years old.

Advent calendar workshop

In the 19th century, Protestant families in Germany began a custom of hanging pictures on the wall or drawing chalk lines on the door inviting children to erase one each day until Christmas. During this activity, children will be able to create their own calendar using wood, felt or wool.

  • Date: December 21 and 22, 2024.
  • Approximate duration: 90 minutes.
  • Showtimes at 12 noon and 5 p.m.

Advent wreath workshop

The tradition of the Advent wreath comes from Northern Germany and dates back to the 19th century. In this workshop, children will create and decorate their own Advent wreath. The materials used will offer them a rich sensory experience, through the smells, textures and shapes of elements such as pine branches, pine cones, leaves and wool.

  • Date: December 26 and 27, 2024.
  • Approximate duration: 90 minutes.
  • Showtimes at 12 noon and 5 p.m.

Christmas lantern workshop

German Christmas lanterns, known as weihnachtslanternen, were traditionally used as symbols of festivity, hope and light. Little ones will create their own lantern using natural and durable materials such as cardboard, parchment paper, leaves, pine cones and candles.

  • Date: December 28, 2024.
  • Approximate duration: 90 minutes.
  • Showtimes at 12 noon and 5 p.m.

Admission is free upon downloading a ticket from December 16 on the Navidad Madrid website.
