THE THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA MUSEUM PRESENTS A NEW EXHIBITION BY THE LEBANESE ARTIST TAREK ATOUI
2025/02/19
Lebanese artist and composer Tarek Atoui opens an innovative exhibition entitled “ At-Tāriq ” at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum , curated by Daniela Zyman .
Tarek Atoui 's exhibition focuses on the artist's long-term research into rural musical traditions in the Arab world on sub-Saharan pilgrimage and trade routes.
The title of the exhibition, “ At-Tāriq ”, means “ the one who comes from the night ” or “ the morning star ”. Its proposal is based on the concept of “ hospitality ” in Arab and North African homes.
After two years of collaboration with musicians and artisans from the Atlas region of Morocco and other nearby areas, Atoui has created a space of “ poetic hospitality ”, a meeting place where music becomes the center of the proposal.
The sound installation invites the public to explore the boundaries between the traditional and the contemporary through the use of intertwined textures and materials.
The exhibition promotes an immersive and sensorial experience that can be visited from February 18 to May 18, 2025. For more information, please visit the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza website.
