CAIXAFORUM MADRID HOSTS THE LARGEST EXHIBITION ON ALICE IN WONDERLAND
2025/04/01
From April 4 to August 3, 2025, CaixaForum Madrid will host a unique exhibition dedicated to the origins, adaptations, and artistic reinterpretations of Alice in Wonderland. This exhibition, the largest ever held on this Victorian cultural phenomenon, will explore the profound impact that Lewis Carroll's work has left on the collective imagination over time.
For the first time, an exhibition comprehensively examines the impact and influence of Alice , an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists across diverse disciplines. Nearly 160 years after her creation, the character remains relevant and continues to fascinate generations, as demonstrated by this immersive, multidisciplinary exhibition that explores film, the visual arts, fashion, and science.
The exhibition invites visitors on a theatrical and playful journey that explores the relationship between Alice's universe and contemporary reality. Among the highlights is the iconic psychedelic Cheshire Cat poster, designed by Joseph McHugh, which illustrates how the story has been reinterpreted through various artistic movements.
Organized by the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and produced by the "la Caixa" Foundation, the exhibition is divided into five thematic sections:
- Alice's Invention : A journey through the origins of the work and its literary, social and political context.
- Through the Screen : An Analysis of Film Adaptations Inspired by Carroll's Novels.
- Alice, Door to Other Worlds : Exploring concepts such as dreams, space and time in history.
- Alice on Stage : A look at the play's influence on theatre and dance.
- Becoming Alice : A look at contemporary readings and reimaginings of the character.
This major exhibition will allow the public to immerse themselves in the magic of Alice in Wonderland from a unique perspective, combining history, art, and imagination into an unforgettable experience.
