Xabier Díaz Quartet brings Galician roots to Arganzuela
Address paseo de la chopera, 6
Date 2026 February 28, 19:00 - 21:00
The Xabier Díaz Quartet arrives in Arganzuela with a concert that is both a celebration and a journey back to its roots: an opportunity to rediscover traditional Galician music from a contemporary, vibrant, and direct perspective
...It will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., at the Casa del Reloj Cultural Center in the Chopera neighborhood, as part of the 21 Districts program (also listed in the city's events calendar / Everything is in Madrid).
Xabier Díaz is one of the leading figures in the contemporary Galician traditional music scene and a leading figure in the revival of the tambourine and the square frame drum, playing a key role in the recovery and renewal of these musical instruments in recent decades. In this quartet format, he shares repertoire from his most recent works with Iván Costa (hurdy-gurdy), Roberto Grandal (accordion), and Virxilio da Silva (guitar), in a performance that aims to broaden boundaries: between what we've learned from "our grandmothers' music" and improvisation, between folk and jazz, seeking new ways to express melodies that have been with us all our lives.
In practical terms, the concert lasts approximately 75 minutes, admission is free, and entry is on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached, so it's worth arriving a little early. The event takes place at the Casa del Reloj Cultural Center (Paseo de la Chopera, 6 - 28045 Madrid), and the venue is wheelchair accessible. If you're looking for a live performance with character, energy, and a strong sense of tradition, this is one of the dates to mark on your calendar and come enjoy.
