A special exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Madrid Municipal Historical Library is being held at the heart of the Conde Duque Cultural Center. This tribute, entitled "Madrid among books," invites you to rediscover the immense bibliographic heritage safeguarded by this century-old institution.
The exhibition is organized around three major intertwined themes: 19th-century Madrid, a decisive period in the construction of the city's cultural identity; the figure of Ramón de Mesonero Romanos, a key chronicler and driving force behind the first municipal public library; and a tour of the most significant collections housed in the Historical Library.
...More than two hundred pieces—including documents, prints, original publications, and reproductions—come from institutions such as the Villa Archive, the Municipal Newspaper Library, the Municipal Printing House-Book Arts, the History Museum, and the Museum of Romanticism, as well as private archives. The exhibition will be open to the public until mid-September and admission is free, providing a great opportunity to delve into Madrid's cultural history.
