The Talking Clams is a stage piece created by Carmen Rojas and Karelis Zambrano that begins with an allegorical image—"clams" as bodies inhabiting a system that oppresses them—to propose a journey of collective discovery: the possibility of imagining other ways of life and "escapes" from the "Great Norm." The piece is based on research aimed at developing a feminist aesthetic that traverses 'Queer Camp' and 'Lesbian Camp,' and positions the body as a territory for analysis and representation.
In its approach and language, the piece is described as a multidisciplinary work that brings together different branches of the performing arts and breaks down barriers between dance, theater, and the audiovisual world. The research is presented “from the body itself,” as a critical examination of heteronormativity regarding sex, gender, and parentage. This work was a finalist and winner at the 38th Madrid Choreographic Competition, and has also been selected for festivals such as Letraherida, La Sub25, and ARTEFACTO (La Rioja).
The performance will take place in Usera on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., at the Pipo Velasco Youth Leisure and Counseling Center (Zofío neighborhood), and will last approximately 50 minutes. The show is recommended for ages 12 and up, and admission is free, with space available until capacity is reached. The address listed in the municipal calendar is Calle Avena, 5 (28026, Madrid).
