El Capricho Park in Alameda de Osuna
El Capricho Park in Alameda de Osuna
This beautiful garden (located in the Barajas district and open only on weekends and holidays ) is one of the most beautiful and, paradoxically, most unknown parks in Madrid (especially its Civil War bunker). María Josefa de la Soledad Alonso Pimentel
...Built between 1787 and 1839 for the Dukes of Osuna, its main promoter was the duchess, Mrs. Protector of artists, bullfighters and intellectuals, the Duchess created a true natural paradise that was frequented by the most illustrious personalities of the time and where the most prestigious artists, gardeners and set designers worked.
The garden offers three different styles: the French parterre or garden, the English landscape and the Italian giardino. In front of the west façade of the palace extends the parterre, with its hedges trimmed as if it were an embroidery on the ground. In the lower part is the Italian, the oldest space on the estate, which mixes hedges with trees where you can sunbathe in winter or take shelter in the shade from the summer sun. Nearby, the labyrinth, designed for love games and hiding places, is made with laurel and respects the plans of the one planted during the Duchess' lifetime. Finally, the rest of the park is conceived as a typical English landscape garden, evoking nature in its purest state, inviting you to walk and stop in the most hidden corners.
