freedom 8

The cafe continues to preserve its structure of more than a hundred years. Originally it was a dairy and later a wine shop

...

In the tavern, the militants of parties and unions met to breathe and drink the air of freedom brought by the visitors from the various European countries who stopped at our beaches and cities.

The history of Café Libertad 8 as such dates back to 1976.   Living up to its name, the street was a hotbed of anti-Francoism during the years of the dictatorship. the PCE   and the CNT also had a flat not far away, this turned the cafe into a meeting place for its sympathizers and members who gave a very special color to their nights.

We believe in people and we will continue betting on them. So we will continue to offer not only the stage but a more professional support to beginning artists. And to you, our friends, we want you to feel at home, and we will continue to offer you the warmth and welcome of our coffee every day and an artistic or musical reason to come see us.

the place passed   in the 80s to be a first-rate intellectual cenacle, which hosted the most renowned journalists and writers every night. And from '94 the café also became the forum for the new song: Pedro Guerra, Gemma and Pavel, Rosana, Javier Álvarez, Jorge Drexler, Ismael Serrano,...

Everyone went through the small stage that still has a player piano from the beginning of the century, which is still in use. Today, coffee is recognized throughout Spain and Latin America as "a cave of author's songs" that continues to be on the agenda of consecrated artists such as Luis Pastor, Tontxu... and to which demos of the new ones arrive every day. They wish to be accredited at Libertad 8 Café and include it among their emblematic establishments.

Over time, the café has forged its well-deserved reputation as a place of worship for people of all ages, and a cultural reference with a stable program that includes book signings and presentations, reading poetry and short stories, photography exhibitions and painting, and an ambitious program of poetry recitals, monologues, café-theater, stories and musical performances.

From Monday to Sunday, from 5:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
