SINCE 1912 The San Agustín Pharmacy La Farmacia Puertas, called like this since the years of the Second Republic, was formerly known as the San Agustín Pharmacy due to its owner's devotion to this saint and also because in those times it was not imperative that the name of the apothecary coincided with that of its owner licensee. Isidro García Vázquez, founder of the pharmacy in 1912, gave way to Matías Puertas Barquín, who was the first of a family of pharmacists that has spanned four generations to the present day: his youngest son, Luis Puertas Díaz de Castro, continued the task for several decades; in 1986 the third generation took over in the person of Valentín Puertas, Luis's son and enthusiast of magisterial formulation; Now the fourth generation accompanies him, Paloma Puertas, daughter of Valentín and great-granddaughter of the initiator of the saga. Its shelves now look like part of the original pharmacy bottle, and the back room has been converted into a warehouse and office; Its owner longs for the primitive appearance of the pharmacy, with its marbles and wood, but the reforms that his father began in the middle of the last century have given it the most modern appearance, with a predominance of white, of current pharmacies
