The Eagle Pharmacy
The Eagle Pharmacy
SINCE 1883 Famous preparations against chilblains In this bustling street, the El Águila pharmacy has remained in the same location since its foundation. In 1943 Dolores Soriano bought the pharmacy from the widow of Rivas Hoder
...Little is known about its history: its founder was probably Salvador Roa y Abela, and in 1887 it passed into the hands of Mariano Passapera Campdera, a pharmacist and full member of the Royal Academy of Natural History. In 1981 the current pharmacist, Ángeles Jiménez Guerra, acquired the establishment. It contributes to the Spanish pharmacopoeia with its famous preparations against chilblains. At the beginning of the 20th century, he sold a remedy called Frilax against rheumatism for five pesetas. Illustrious figures such as the philosopher Zubiri or the mayor of Madrid, Enrique Tierno Galván, frequented the establishment. The Eagle on the façade leads to a place with a long counter and walls lined with wooden and glass shelves.
