The beginning of the firm dates back to 1902, when Mauricio Bravo Hidalgo opened a business for the sale of lead and sanitation of sanitary ware. So the bathroom was not usual in houses. It was houses in the Salamanca neighborhood that began to introduce it, as a luxury item. In 1927, three partners took over the business: Villaverde, Calvo and Munar. In 1932 the company was renamed Calvo y Munar. Commerce soon stands out for its innovation; is one of the Spanish firms that has contributed the most inventions to the bathroom. For example, Munar invented and patented the bañoaseo (bathtub with a seat) or the polibán (a kind of shower tray, but deeper, that was used as a bidet). In the 40s the company began its diversification. Today it is a leader in the distribution of bathrooms, kitchen furniture, tiles and stoneware, heating and plumbing materials.
