1st Cycle of WOMEN IN LETTERS meetings. 2022

In the months of March and April 2022 – on the occasion of the month dedicated to women – the Association of merchants of the Barrio de las Letras, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Commerce and Hospitality of the Madrid City Council, organized a series of talks in which under the motto "WOMEN IN LETTERS", the role of women in all areas of society was reflected on and valued.

GOALS :

  • Make women visible in different fields and professions.
  • Give them a voice, so that their experiences serve other women and, in particular, for the next generations.
  • Raise awareness in society regarding gender equality and the value of women as social and professional agents with the same capabilities and aptitudes as men.
  • Inspire and motivate men and women regarding gender equality so that it transcends the education of future generations.
  • Generate reflection and debate on different points of view to face the long road towards equality.
  • Give visibility to the Barrio de las Letras within the references and values of gender equality.
  • Attract the public to a friendly environment that values gender equality.

CALENDAR :

The talks were held on consecutive Wednesdays from March 9 to April 6 at the Westin Palace Hotel.
Each of them focused on different areas: culture, commerce, management, fashion and hospitality and tourism.
The selection of these areas was determined by two aspects:
▪The greater or lesser presence of women in them;
▪The visibility of women in the sectors particularly protected by the organizing entity;
▪The participants and moderators were chosen with the aim of offering different points of view on the journey and current events of women with respect to gender equality from their different professional spheres.
