Viviane Sassen and Laia Abril headline the first openings of PHotoESPAÑA 2026
2026/06/02
The 29th edition of PHotoESPAÑA kicks off its program of openings with two of the festival's most prominent names. On June 2nd, Lux & Umbra, by Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen, opens to the public at the Fernán Gómez Theatre, and Endometriosis, by Laia Abril, opens at the Museum of Romanticism. These two exhibitions reflect the spirit of an edition marked by experimentation and a contemporary perspective.
Under the motto "Reimagine," this edition of PHotoESPAÑA celebrates creativity, experimentation, and the exploration of the boundaries of photography, with the Netherlands as the guest country and a program that brings together established names in photography with emerging talent. The festival features nearly forty exhibitions in its Official Selection, which will be open until September 13.
PHotoESPAÑA 2026 will expand to include nearly 100 exhibitions and venues throughout the city, with 65% female artists, consolidating itself as one of the most important photography events on the international scene.
