A musical dystopia about networks and AI: “Rebellion on the Net” by Paco de Lucía
2026/03/17
Rebellion on the Net is a musical performance by La Joven that imagines a near future in which “digital capitalism has collapsed” and younger generations have hacked the old servers to create Animal Farm, ethical software that gives rise to a social network populated by animal avatars, with their own codes, languages, and trends. From this starting point, the work engages with the universe of George Orwell's Animal Farm and translates its famous maxim, “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others,” into a contemporary interpretation.
The production is presented as a musical set in 2035 and incorporates themes such as cyberactivism, social control through networks, and artificial intelligence, linking the narrative to questions of social justice and the common good. The play features dramaturgy by Marta Arán, music by Alberto Granados Reguillón, and direction by José Luis Arellano García, with a cast including Flavia Forni, Joselu López, Luis Maesso, and Paula Mori.
The performance will take place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Paco de Lucía Cultural Center (Paco de Lucía Auditorium and Exhibition Hall), located in Las Águilas (Latina district), at Avenida de Las Águilas, 2 (28044 Madrid). The performance lasts approximately 90 minutes, is recommended for ages 14 and up, and admission is free, subject to capacity. The venue is also wheelchair accessible.
