Madrid, May 22, 2024 . The Madrid City Council, through the Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance, kicks off the 'Sit down to read 2024' campaign, an initiative promoted by JCdeCAUX, Pengüin Random and Carat España, with the support of the Madrid City Council which aims to promote reading among Madrid residents, with the installation of 26 benches in the shape of books in different locations in the city, while revitalizing local bookstores, neighborhood libraries and the main commercial arteries of the capital.
It is, in the words of the head of the area, Engracia Hidalgo, “about inviting citizens to stop along the way and stop to enjoy a book and a moment of peace in the middle of the street, promoting reading through a fun and inspiring urban furniture.” The objective is to “encourage the pleasure of reading, give visibility to neighborhood bookstores and municipal libraries”, near which many of the banks are located, and “encourage Madrid residents and visitors to make different use of the streets of the city”, taking advantage of “all the offer that Madrid can offer”.
26 book banks in 8 districts
