"TAKE REFUGE IN THE CULTURE." A SUMMER OF ART AND FRESHNESS IN MADRID
2024/07/08
The Madrid Area of Culture, Tourism and Sports has launched an innovative initiative for this summer, called "Refuge in Culture". The area delegate has expressed her enthusiasm for the program, highlighting that culture, a spiritual refuge, will now also be a physical refuge, providing a refreshing respite in the hottest months of the year.
During the months of July and August, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., a series of cultural activities will take place. The program includes 46 flamenco performances in the main national museums and a series of monologues by the actor and comedian Sergio Pazos, which will be presented at the Madrid History Museum and several municipal libraries.
Flamenco will be one of the protagonists of this programming, with a cast of renowned artists and young talents, thanks to the collaboration with SO-LA-NA Entertainment, a company with more than 12 years of experience in flamenco shows. The performances will take place in emblematic places such as the Sala de las Musas del Prado, the Reina Sofía, the Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Gallery of the Royal Collections.
The opening of the program will take place on July 1 at the Reina Sofía, with a performance by acclaimed dancer Eduardo Guerrero. In addition, notable artists such as guitarists Rafael Andújar and Daniel Casares, singers Jesús 'El Chozas' and Juañarito, and dancers Amador Rojas and El Yiyo, among others, will perform.
In addition to flamenco performances, the program offers free guided tours in the Royal Collections Gallery and the Círculo de Bellas Artes will turn its Ballroom into a climatic refuge with various activities.
Discounts on cinemas and other activities
The Spanish Film Federation (FECE) joins the campaign by offering reduced prices in the city's cinemas for afternoon sessions before 5:00 p.m., providing a cultural and refreshing option to escape the heat.
Municipal museums and libraries, which are always free, will be open and offer a variety of activities, including presentations by Sergio Pazos at the Madrid History Museum and several municipal libraries.
Tourism promotion and support
The Madrid Hotel Business Association (AEHM) will support the campaign by distributing information in Spanish and English through a brochure with a map and a QR code, directing visitors to the 'Refuge in Culture' website. In addition, the campaign will have outdoor advertising and a special issue of the eme21mag magazine with the campaign image.
Madrid, which last year received 764,374 tourists in August, continues to establish itself as an attractive cultural destination during the summer. With "Refuge in Culture", we hope to reinforce this trend and offer residents and visitors a way to enjoy the city's heritage and culture while sheltering from the heat.
