2026/06/19

PHotoESPAÑA and the Casa de México Foundation in Spain present Specters: Enigmas of the Gaze , a group exhibition featuring the work of seven contemporary Mexican photographers as part of the Official Selection of the international photography and visual arts festival. Curated by Laura González-Flores, the exhibition is free to the public and runs until September 13.

The exhibition brings together the work of Adriana Calatayud, Alinka Echeverría, Cannon Bernáldez, Humberto Ríos, Laura Cohen, Paola Dávila, and Tomás Casademunt, artists who explore photography's capacity to imagine what has been seen. Beyond its power to describe and catalog reality, the works on display demonstrate that the medium can also be used to destabilize it. The title alludes to photography as a specter: supplementary images of a material reality that was once before the camera, so that seeing a photograph implies seeing what once was and is no longer.

The exhibition presents ninety-six works in various formats and sizes, from digital photography to cyanotype, pinhole and silver gelatin prints, platinum and piezography.

The full program, schedules and updated information can be found on the official PHotoESPAÑA website.
