PHotoESPAÑA faces the final stretch of its 29th edition with the Viviane Sassen retrospective
2026/07/28
As every summer, photography occupies a key place on the national cultural agenda with the PHotoESPAÑA program. In its 29th edition, and under the motto "Reimagining," the international photography and visual arts festival brings together some of the most relevant proposals in contemporary photographic creation in museums, art centers, and prominent cultural spaces.
Among the highlights of this edition is LUX&UMBRA, the first major retrospective dedicated to Viviane Sassen, which will remain open to the public until Sunday, July 26, at the Fernán Gómez Theatre, Centro Cultural de la Villa. The exhibition offers a reinterpretation of more than three decades of work by one of the most influential and innovative photographers on the international scene, recipient of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 Award.
With nearly forty exhibitions in its Official Section and a program spanning almost one hundred venues, PHotoESPAÑA offers a journey that connects the public with different generations, photographic languages, and perspectives. From masters like Richard Avedon and Robert Frank to photojournalism icons like Colita, renowned artists such as Isabel Muñoz, and contemporary creators like Talia Chetrit, Laia Abril, Bego Antón, Greta Alfaro, Rafał Milach, José Quintanilla, and Gorka Postigo.
The full program, schedules and updated information can be found on the official PHotoESPAÑA website.
