2026/04/15
The 29th edition of PHotoESPAÑA kicks off on May 13 and runs until September 13 with the theme "Reimagining." Spain's most important international photography festival features nearly 40 exhibitions in its Official Selection and expands to almost 100 venues and exhibitions in Madrid and other cities, with 65% of the featured artists being women.
The program combines renowned figures in the history of photography, such as Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, and Colita, with established artists like Isabel Muñoz and leading contemporary photographers such as Talia Chetrit, Laia Abril, Bego Antón, Greta Alfaro, and Gorka Postigo. The Netherlands is the guest country for this edition, with a presence at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Fernán Gómez Theatre, as well as in the professional program. One of the festival's highlights is LUX & UMBRA, the first solo exhibition in Spain by Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen, conceived specifically for PHE26 and showcasing more than three decades of work at the Fernán Gómez Theatre.
The festival venues include museums such as the Royal Collections Gallery, the Museum of Romanticism, the National Museum of Decorative Arts, and the National Archaeological Museum, as well as cultural institutions like the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the MAPFRE Foundation, and the Telefónica Foundation. The festival also extends beyond Madrid, with events in Alcalá de Henares, Barcelona, Gijón, Santander, Seville, Valencia, Zaragoza, and even Paraguay.
