The Governing Board of the city of Madrid, in its session on April 25, 2024, approved a new call for aid to the fashion sector, corresponding to the year 2024, worth 500,000 euros, expandable by up to another 500,000 euros if There is budget availability, and with a maximum amount to be granted per applicant of 20,000 euros. The objective of the subsidy is to encourage the participation of designers in Madrid Fashion Week and other sectoral events of interest, presenting their collections and contributing to positioning Madrid as the Fashion Capital and a focus for attracting talent.
Promoted by the Area of Economy, Innovation and Finance, through its Madrid Capital de Moda program and charged to the budget application 'Other subsidies to private companies' of the general budget of the Madrid City Council for 2024, aid can be requested between the July 15 and 31 at the City Council's electronic headquarters and will serve to finance certain participation expenses incurred by designers when presenting their creations and collections at Madrid Fashion Week or other events.
Designers who have presented their collections, whether in person or digital format, on the official calendar of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid catwalk, of the Madrid is Fashion event organized by the Madrid City Council and the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain, the Atelier Couture catwalk, or the Madrid Craft Week and Cabalgando entre Costuras events , within the eligible period, between September 1, 2023 and June 30 of 2024.

The new line of subsidies redefines the events in which expenses derived from the presentation of a collection or creation by designers are considered eligible, and doubles the maximum amount of subsidy to be received by each of the applicants compared to previous calls. , which will be distributed in 10,000 euros per presentation of a creation or collection, with a maximum of two presentations within the eligible period in one of the events mentioned above.
Likewise, it extends the initial credit by almost 30% with respect to the call corresponding to the year 2023 and establishes the incompatibility of these subsidies with others granted by the Madrid City Council and its autonomous bodies, with the same purpose. They are compatible, however, with other aid for the same purpose, coming from other public administrations, public or private entities, as long as the sum of all of them does not exceed the cost of the subsidized activity.
This new call for subsidies for fashion designers is added to the municipal aid that the sector can benefit from through the three calls previously approved for this year to support the functioning of the associative fabric, the promotion of digitalization, of associations, training and commercial revitalization. In this way, the City Council reinforces its commitment to talent in design and creation and with the aim of promoting a sector that contributes decisively to the internationalization of the city and reinforcing the Madrid brand.
