The Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid will open its doors on December 5 to inaugurate "Max Ernst: Surrealism, Art and Cinema" , a world exhibition that presents for the first time the work of Max Ernst since his connection with cinema. The exhibition, produced by Sold Out and the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and curated by Martina Mazzota and Jürgen Pech, brings together more than 300 pieces including paintings, sculptures, photographs, projections and collages that explore the unique link between Ernst's work and 20th century surrealist cinema.

A WORLD-PIONEERING EXHIBITION

With an unprecedented approach, “Max Ernst: Surrealism, Art and Cinema” offers a tour in six areas that delve into the artist’s relationship with cinema, from his first forays as an actor to his influence on surrealist cinematography. In addition to iconic pieces such as The Temptations of Saint Anthony and Lot’s Daughters , screenings of key cinematic works such as Un Chien Andalou and The Age of Gold by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí will be presented, along with pieces by Hans Richter and Jean Desvilles, creating a dialogue between Ernst’s work and the seventh art.

THE LEGACY OF MAX ERNST, A CINEMATOGRAPHIC AND ARTISTIC ADVENTURE

The exhibition sheds light on lesser-known aspects of Ernst's life, such as his role as a jury member and designer of film awards, and reveals his impact on the cinema of the time. Through projections and previously unseen pieces, the public will be able to delve into themes that marked the artist's life: exile, environmental commitment and cultural influences.

Max Ernst: Surrealism, Art and Cinema will be open until May 4, 2025 at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Tickets cost €12 for adults, €10 for reduced-price tickets and €5 for children and school groups. The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the last showing one hour before closing.

This exhibition promises to be an immersive and unprecedented experience, in which both the general public and art lovers will be able to discover new facets of Ernst's work and his dialogue with surrealist cinema. Buy your tickets here .
