MADRID JOINS WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY: ALMEIDA WELCOMES ASSOCIATIONS AND JOINS THE MISSING SOCKS ACTIVITY AGAIN
2025/03/21
Today, March 21, 2025 , the world celebrates World Down Syndrome Day , a UN-recognized day that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of inclusion, equal opportunities, and the rights of people with this condition. Madrid has not been immune to this commemoration and has reaffirmed its commitment to the community through various initiatives.
In Madrid, there are several associations dedicated to fighting for children and their rights, such as Down Madrid , the Tres Olivos Occupational Center -Down Syndrome Foundation , and the Stela Project. Each of them plays an essential role in society.
Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, welcomed representatives of Down Madrid and the organization's director, Elena Escalona, to the Cibeles Palace. As he does every year, Almeida wears mismatched socks as a symbol of support for this great cause.
World Down Syndrome Day reminds us of the importance of continuing to work for a more just, inclusive, and barrier-free society. We can all do our part, whether by supporting organizations, promoting accessible spaces, or simply breaking stereotypes. Because a united society is one that leaves no one behind.
