The Year of the Snake begins on January 29, and Madrid is already preparing a full program of activities to commemorate this traditional thousand-year-old holiday, also known as the Spring Festival.

The celebration, which bids farewell to winter and welcomes a new cycle, is mainly focused on the Usera district, considered the “ Chinatown of Madrid ”. Madrid City Council joins in this festivity every year with a varied programme designed for all ages.

The Chinese New Year Festival is one of the most anticipated moments of the celebration, scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, January 26 or February 2. The event will take place in the Pradolongo Park bandstand and will feature live music and a fireworks display.

The Chinese New Year Grand Parade will take place on Sunday, February 2 at 12:00pm. This parade will feature giant dragons and lions , traditional Chinese costumes, lanterns designed by children and live music.

In addition, the program will offer a wide variety of activities , such as exhibitions, storytelling, workshops, food tastings, shows, the Chinese Temple Fair and two exciting races: the Spring Race and the Chinese New Year Race.
