The Madrid City Council has approved an investment of €800,000 to strengthen the international profile of Madrid's fashion industry , as part of its strategy to consolidate the capital as one of Europe's leading creative and design hubs. The measure is implemented through a collaboration agreement with IFEMA Madrid to support the organization of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid (MBFWM) during the 2026 and 2027 editions.

The agreement, approved by the municipal Governing Board, provides funding of 400,000 euros for each of the two years , with the aim of strengthening the city's position within the international fashion circuit and enhancing the cultural, creative and economic impact of the sector in the capital.

Madrid as an international fashion platform

The city's investment aims to solidify Madrid's position as a meeting point for designers, brands, buyers, and industry professionals. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid , considered Spain's premier fashion event, brings together leading national and international designers each year and serves as a showcase for the sector's latest trends.

In this context, institutional support aims to boost the international visibility of Spanish creative talent and strengthen the competitiveness of the textile and design sector, which is part of the cultural and creative industries with the greatest capacity for international projection.

A strategy to position Madrid on the global circuit

With this initiative, the city council reinforces its commitment to the Madrid Capital of Fashion program, a platform that integrates different actions aimed at promoting local design, fostering collaboration between professionals and attracting investment and tourism linked to the creative sector.

Beyond their cultural impact, events like Fashion Week generate economic activity for the city by attracting international visitors, media, and professionals. In recent editions, the event has brought together dozens of designers and helped position Madrid alongside other European capitals that use fashion as a tool for cultural and economic promotion.

Boosting Madrid's creative industry

The announced investment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the city's creative industries. The goal is to consolidate Madrid's position as an international leader in design, culture, and creativity , supporting initiatives that connect local talent with the global market.

With this institutional support, the capital seeks to further expand its influence on the international fashion map and offer a solid platform for emerging designers and established firms that find in Madrid an increasingly relevant showcase.
