The Madrid City Council has reaffirmed its support for the senior economy and the entrepreneurial talent of those over 45 through its collaboration with SECOT (Spanish Seniors for Technical Cooperation). This initiative was highlighted at the closing ceremony of the Entrepreneurship School courses, held at the Municipal School of Commerce, located in the San Cristóbal Market, where the City Council emphasized the value of experience as a driving force for boosting the local economy.
The program also stands out for its training component and its impact on the professional autonomy of adults, especially women, as almost three-quarters of the students are female. The collaboration between the City Council and SECOT is part of the municipal strategy to combat ageism and promote new employment and business opportunities at a stage of life where experience becomes a competitive advantage.
The data supports this approach. In Madrid, over 56% of unemployed people are over 45, while nationally, those over 45 already represent 20% of the active population. At the same time, projects led by people over 55 show greater stability: they head 15.4% of established companies and have a failure rate of only 0.8%. With this, Madrid reinforces its commitment to an economy that recognizes the value of accumulated talent and lifelong learning.
