MADRID SAYS GOODBYE TO THE YEAR WITH THE 60TH EDITION OF THE SAN SILVESTRE VALLECANA
2024/12/27

Madrid bids farewell to 2024, as has been tradition since 1964, with the San Silvestre Vallecana , one of the most prestigious 10-kilometre races in the world, recognised with the IAAF Gold Race Running Label . This event combines the festive atmosphere of the popular edition with the intensity of international competition, attracting thousands of participants and the best athletes on the planet.

The San Silvestre consists of two different events , both competitions share a favorable route with a predominance of slight descents in 8 of the 10 kilometers, which favors fast times:

  • The popular edition , of a festive nature, allows those over 16 years of age to participate and run the 10 kilometres dressed up or in a celebratory atmosphere. The start will be at 4:55 p.m. from Concha Espina street, with a finish line near the Vallecas stadium.
  • The international edition , which brings together the stars of world athletics, will begin at 7:55 p.m. and end at the Vallecas Stadium, with a maximum of 2,000 participants and an exclusive t-shirt with the inscription "International".

The route passes through some of the most emblematic places in Madrid, such as the Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles, Neptuno, and Paseo del Prado, before entering Vallecas. This year, the popular race will end in the surroundings of the Vallecas Stadium , while the international race will have its official finish inside the stadium.

In 2023, the race brought together nearly 42,000 runners in the popular edition and some of the best long-distance runners in the world in the international edition. In 2024, the San Silvestre Vallecana celebrates its 60th edition with registrations already sold out and a stellar duel between elite runners Jacob Kiplimo and the current champion Berihu Aregawi.
