Madrid has become one of the main focuses of the celebration of the Chinese New Year 2026 , which officially began on February 17 with the arrival of the Year of the Fire Horse , a sign of the traditional Chinese zodiac associated with energy, dynamism and progress.
The city has organized more than 30 free activities open to the public around this ancient festival, with a special focus on the Usera district , considered Madrid's "Chinatown." Between February 20 and 22 , the neighborhood hosts a packed schedule of cultural events including concerts, workshops, exhibitions, gastronomy, traditional performances, and children's activities.
The program, presented by city officials, includes diverse activities such as music recitals, calligraphy and origami workshops, lion and dragon dance performances, and craft markets. These offerings aim to reflect both the richness of Chinese tradition and the cultural coexistence present in the city.
One of the most anticipated moments is the Grand Chinese New Year Parade , which will take place on Sunday , February 22nd in Pradolongo Park , with the participation of hundreds of artists and troupes who will parade through the park in traditional costumes and choreographed shows.
In addition to cultural activities, the celebration extends to other events such as the Spring Race , a popular race that will be held on March 1st in Madrid Río, promoting the integration of sport within the Lunar New Year festivities.
The celebration of the Chinese New Year in Madrid not only offers a meeting point for the local Chinese community, but has also established itself as a cultural offering of general interest to residents and visitors, enriching the city's festive agenda for several weeks.
