Madrid opens its Fashion Week with an urban parade in Plaza de España
2026/03/13
Madrid has once again demonstrated its ability to transform public spaces into cultural stages with the opening show of a new edition of Fashion Week. Plaza de España was transformed into a grand open-air catwalk where Spanish designer fashion took center stage before citizens, industry professionals, and institutional representatives.
The event marked the start of a program that will run from March 12 to 22 and will bring together designers, brands and creatives at different points in the city, consolidating Madrid as one of the great fashion centers in Europe.
A catwalk in the heart of the city
After midday, the central esplanade of the square became an open stage where 40 models paraded with designs from 25 Spanish creators , including established names such as Devota & Lomba, Roberto Verino, Juana Martín, Duyos or Roberto Torretta.
With the Torre de Madrid and the Edificio España as a backdrop, the parade offered an urban setting that sought to bring fashion closer to the general public and strengthen the link between creativity, heritage and public space.
The initiative is part of OMODA Madrid es Moda , a project promoted by the Spanish Fashion Designers Association (ACME) with the support of the Madrid City Council. Its aim is to give visibility to Spanish designer fashion and connect the work of designers with the city and its inhabitants.
A week to celebrate creative talent
The Plaza de España parade was the starting point for eleven days of activities dedicated to design and creativity , in which more than 70 firms will present their proposals through parades, exhibitions, presentations and cultural meetings.
Between March 12 and 17, the OMODA Madrid es Moda program will take place, which includes parades and events spread across different emblematic spaces of the city, such as museums, cultural institutions or designers' ateliers.
Subsequently, from March 17 to 22, the spotlight will shift to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid , which will celebrate its calendar of professional fashion shows and presentations, consolidating the capital as a key point within the international fashion circuit.
Fashion, city and culture
The strategy of holding fashion shows in iconic locations is part of an initiative to integrate fashion into the city's cultural fabric. In recent years, similar runway shows have been held in spaces such as the Puerta de Alcalá, the Plaza de Oriente, and the Plaza de la Villa, strengthening the connection between creative talent and Madrid's urban heritage.
With this new edition, Madrid celebrates fashion not only as an artistic expression, but also as an economic and cultural engine. Fashion Week is thus consolidating its position as a platform to promote national talent, bring design closer to the public, and project the capital as a dynamic, creative city open to innovation.
