Historia de una escalera ”, the emblematic work by Antonio Buero Vallejo , returns to the Teatro Español after more than seven decades since its premiere. The main cast will include actress Gloria Muñoz and the direction will be in charge of Helena Pimienta .

The drama takes place around a staircase that serves as a stage for the experiences of its inhabitants. Throughout three key moments in Spanish history (1919, 1929 and 1949), Buero Vallejo portrays several generations of residents struggling to survive in a society marked by injustice and lack of opportunities.

Through its stories, the work raises a profound reflection on social inequalities. It also offers a parallel with current social reality through a reflection on the passage of time, generations and the difficulties of daily life.

History of a Staircase ” originally premiered on October 14, 1949 , and marked a milestone in the history of Spanish theater by winning the “ Lope de Vega Prize ” and establishing itself as an essential piece of national dramatic literature.

The play will be available from January 24 to March 30, 2025, with performances from Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets for this anniversary are already on sale, you can get them on the Teatro Español website.
