“GYPSY”, THE GREAT MUSICAL BY ANTONIO BANDERAS, COMES TO THE APOLO THEATRE IN MADRID

On February 7, Madrid’s Teatro Apolo will host the premiere of “ Gypsy ,” one of the most acclaimed and award-winning musicals of all time. This new blockbuster, which will run from Tuesday to Sunday, is based on the memoirs of the famous burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee .

The production is directed by Antonio Banderas , who is in charge of his fourth theatrical production after the success of the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga. On stage, the performances of Marta Ribera , Lydia Fairén and Laia Prats stand out.

The story of “ Gypsy ” centers on Rose , mother of legendary burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee , who seeks to turn her daughters into vaudeville stars in a constant struggle between success and maternal love.

Considered a Broadway classic, “ Gypsy ” explores the world of show business with a mix of humor, drama and sophistication, establishing itself as one of the greatest exponents of American musical theatre in the 20th century. The musical debuted in 1959 and has been performed on stages around the world, including Germany, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

Antonio Banderas reinterprets this classic with an innovative and original staging. The Spanish production of “ Gypsy ” promises spectacular scenery , meticulously designed period costumes and a live orchestra that will enhance the magic of this iconic musical.
